Oribi Introduction
The oribi is a small antelope that is known for its graceful manner, and is found throughout the savannahs of sub-Saharan Africa. It has slender legs and a long, elegant neck with a short, bushy tail. Its back and the upper portion of its chest are a tan, orange-brown, reddish-brown or reddish-yellow colour.
Description of Oribi
Oribi are elegantly built antelope standing at a height of about 580 mm. Sexual dimorphism is apparent in that males (average 17 kg) are slightly smaller and lighter than females (2 kg heavier). The males are furthermore distinguished by horns usually just over 110 mm long and straight, with ridges at their base. The oribi has a slender build and is long-limbed and long-necked. It stands 51–76 cm (20–30 inches) high and weighs about 14 kg (31 pounds); females are slightly larger than males. It has prominent ears, and the males have erect, spike like horns 8–19 cm (3–7 inches) long.
